The Folli Follie It List: Accessories that moms love shopping event

Folli Follie collage

Last Thursday evening, I headed to a special shopping event at the Folli Follie flagship store in the heart of Soho.  The neighborhood has definitely changed over the last decade featuring more upscale shops and designer boutiques. The Folli Follie store can be described as chic and modern, brightly painted white with orange accents throughout. I was immediately welcomed by friendly staff members and had to fill out a form for the upcoming 8pm drawing to win a Folli Di Fiorie gift set .IMAG1893 Continue reading

The 30 year old rapper/designer/American Idol Judge brings her signature “Barbie” style to grace the cover of the June/July 2013 issue of Teen Vouge. She is dressed like the ultimate glam rock Barbie doll, in a Chris Benz lace shirt and tutu with a blinged out Vivenne Westwood Gold label corset. She dishes on her childhood, her internet haters and about the music industry.

“People treat this business like its high school. It can absolutely feel like one big popularity contest, and you know what? I can’t be bothered,” she said. “I can’t allow myself to play ridiculous games with grown adults in the industry. I can’t be nice to someone just because they’re hot right now. I can’t do it.”

Ragdolls & Rockets stylish and cozy clothing for girls

wpid-rag4.png

Mary, the owner of Ragdolls and Rockets  developed a brand of comfortable leggings, tops and dresses for girls sizes 2-16. Inspired by her daughter, she decided to create a bold apparel line featuring luxurious soft fabrics for delicate skin. Based in San Diego, California Ragdolls and Rockets clothing is sold in various retailers.

My daughter was six years old at the time we started Ragdoll and at that time most of the lines were too gimmicky and over done.  Shopping for my young daughter was difficult because she had ADD and was hypersensitive to almost anything that touched her skin.  My friends’ daughter was very similar in nature and because of my background in the industry I decided to create something that I knew we both would love.

We started with super soft modal solids in bright jewel tone colors and fashionable silhouettes that were not too sophisticated for younger girls.  We also added hand stitching design details to certain groups.  This mixture filled a void and found a niche in the marketplace that eventually grew into a loyal following of consumers and retailers.

What I admire and what I wear can be completely different.  As a young adult, I loved the line Theory by Elie Tahari .  I admired the clean yet fashionable bodies and at one time owned their basic chino stretch bottom and woven button down top in almost every color.   One of my favorite designers was the late Alexander McQueen even though I do not wear the label.  I would not do that line justice and would rather admire it on others.  I am most inspired by the street scene and how everyday youths put together their favorite looks.

Ming Lee, Aoki Lee & Kenzo hit London with mom Kimora Lee

The adorable siblings look like they stepped of a runway instead off an airplane yesterday as they were spotted in Heathrow Airport by the paparazzi. Ming, age 13, wore a bronze jacket with black leggins and a fierce dog shirt. Aoki, 10, opted to be a little more glam donning a wicked navy fascinator, with acid washed legging. Little Kenzo, 3 1/2 was nice and comfy in a polo sweatshirt and sweats with his hair style in his signature afro!

2013 Good Housekeeping Magazine Spring Fling NYC

Image

I had a fun filled morning in Grand Central Station on Tuesday. The majestic Vanderbilt hall was transformed by sponsors L’Oreal Paris and Good Housekeeping magazine into a fun pit stop for visitors. Mini makeovers, live cooking demos and even a casting call for real women to appear in the pages of the GH! I had an in depth hair analysis by L’Oreal hair stylist.

Image

A microscopic wand was magnified my tresses to show my coarse hair covered in coconut oil (and a few grays) needed lots of moisture. I even met a fellow mom Melissa, who was excited to test the True Match Foundation from L’Oreal. The mint Rice Pilaf was divine and the entire GH staff was down to earth and helpful. The Editor in Chief, Rosemary Ellis, checked in with visitor, asking about their experience. We were even treated to swag bags with makeup, Micheal’s coupons and scented fabric softener (I used mine last night). Before we left I played about 3 minutes worth of Zumba on the Xbox 360. I have been asking my husband to purchase an Xbox, just so I can do Zumba with out a remote control. Overall, Spring Fling was exciting and a fab event! I hope I can attend again next year.

9 year old Che Esson designer of King Che organic t-shirts

_DSC0232I was delighted to find a press release from King Che apparel based in London, especially since I love to meet kid designers. Che is the youngest I have met so far!

“Che Esson is an 9 year old school boy. His interests involve everything artistic. Drawing is one of his many passions. From a very early age he would sit and draw images of women. These images demanded to be shared and so the idea was born to place them on T-Shirts. Che, from the outset, expressed a creative and sartorial thrust, insisting on how he wanted his images and subsequent design to be presented. Using the name ‘King’, a moniker he calls himself, the label ‘King Che‘ was born. And here the brand begins by introducing two hand drawn organic T-Shirts: ‘Pink Lady’ and ‘Orange Lady’.
These unique T’s leave you wanting more..”_DSC0158

After viewing some photos and reading the submitted designer survey I immediately set up a Skype interview to develop an in depth article for Fresh Kid Nation.

_DSC9982Dressed in a bright blue blazer and blue bow tie Che appeared professional and way cooler than any kid I knew. I was immediately charmed by his natural swag and melodious British accent. Even his mom donned a pair of hip sunglasses and excitedly dropped phrases such as “wicked” during our conversation. The family is just starting out developing the T shirt line for girls. Cordelia, Che’s mom has helped Che develop the T shirt line over the past year through trial and error.  “We tried out all methods like transfers onto t-shirts, printing off of the Apple mac, until I decided we needed to get the t-shirts done properly – so I approached a screen-printing company.”

The high quality t-shirts are made from organic cotton fibers, which is softer on children’s skin, and  great for sensitive skin types. Che had the idea of putting the labels on the hem of the t-shirts. Since he was a tot Che loved to draw and showcased natural artistic talents.  Besides painting and drawing, he loves to play the piano and go to the cinema. Che recently saw The Wizard of Oz with James Franco and we both thought it was brilliant. Che’s favorite color is gold which he uses to color the sun in his “Pink Lady” shirt and when I asked him about his glorious long hair he replied “I don’t know how I would look with out hair.”

Che says he gets his ideas and inspiration from his mother and how she dresses. Cordelia spends a large amount of time helping Che develop a brand amongst many other mom duties (Homework, dinner, work etc). She even asked a co-worker’s daughter to model the first sample t-shirts. They also plan on creating shirts for boys as well.
