Atlanta based mentoring program educates girls about the Fashion Industry

Great opportunities from  Atlanta International Fashion Week:

“If your interest is in modeling, fashion design, fashion buying, graphic design, fashion photography, then this program is for you!

This year we are launching the Fashion Apprentice a Pretty Academy Ambassador and Mentor Program – an opportunity for 20 emerging talents interested in the fashion, design, beauty and retail industry to gain hands on experience and education.

The goal of “Pretty Apprentices” is to encourage, guide and educate girls on the ins and outs of the fashion industry. We promote female confidence, courage, educational and personal development. We are committed to becoming positive mentors for future leaders and tomorrow’s trendsetters. AIFW “Pretty Apprentices” aims to assist the young girls by giving them a first hand view on how these different components come together to create what is known collectively as the “Fashion Industry”. Our mentor program also offers young girls the unique opportunity to learn from each other and AIFW staff the best ways to promote positive body image and self-esteem.
Beyond Fashion week, we plan to expand the program to accommodate 20 girls by providing enrichment programs, workshops and seminars. These series of meeting will empower these young women to promote positive body image among their peers, promote their growth and knowledge of the Fashion industry, and encourage community involvement through volunteering. We also plan to produce an annual fashion show where the girls are involved in every step of the planning process, giving them hands on experience on what it takes to put on a fashion production.

Following an initial review, a short list of applicants will be selected by the AIFW Advisory board and may either be invited to participate in one-on-one interviews conducted in Atlanta or via Teleconference by the fashion mentors and AIFW.

Applicants will be notified if they have been short-listed for interviews.

Please do not hesitate to contact AIFW if you have a question.

Applicants must: demonstrate vision, skill, creativity, innovation and business acumen; complete the questionnaire and attach the required documents.

The internship(s) will be a minimum of 1 week during AIFW for the first phase.

Mentor Program Criteria: STUDENTS-must be between 8 to 18 years of age with interest in the fashion industry.

To become apart, email us at info@atlantaintlfashionweek.com.”

Dolce & Gabbana luxury perfume for babies

Is it possible to capture the distinct smell of a baby? Dolce & Gabbana the luxury Italian fashion empire apparently think they have connoted the right unisex formula.

“How can babies smell even sweeter than they already do?” designer Stefano Gabbana posted on Instagram

The New York Daily News reports that the perfume will include notes of citrus, honey and melon. The new scent will cost $44USD. On January 24th Grazia Daily posted on their site about the marketing schematic behind I Bambini, the new fragrance”Major pros firstly, because it’s very modern to create a unisex scent, very in keeping with the recent Pinksticks campaign against the toy industry’s limited view of gender roles which forced Hamley’s toy store to get rid of their ‘pink for girls’ floor. Ditto the packaging, which is minimal and orange and about as classy as it gets.”

There is obviously a  market for “Eau de Toilette”( perfumes for children)L’Occitane,Bulgari and Burberry are other companies that have fragrances for babies. Even Johnson & Johnson has a baby cologne.  Would you buy perfume for your baby?

Who is Jazmin Brown? A 3 part series about a 14 year old fashion designer

As the mom of a 4 year old, I watch countless hours of Nickelodeon and other kid friendly television programming. So much that I even memorized all the commercials and ads that run on these channels. I was always particularly interested in a Peanut Butter and Chocolate dress commercial with teenage clothing designer Jazmin Brown. I had seen the ad for months and decided two weeks ago I wanted to interview Jazmin Brown. I was one of many teen fashion designers when I attended the High School of Fashion Industries in NYC. Jazmin is rare because of exposure from a national run ad and sponsorship from Kraft Foods. After a quick Google search I contacted her management team via Facebook and had a two hour pleasant phone conversation with “Momager” Cami. Here is the beginning of the 3 part series about Jazmin and here journey in the fashion world.
Jazmin began to show an interest in design at age 7 when she was modeling and participating in local pageants. With the help of her determined mom and the love and support from her siblings and dad, Jazmin has spiraled into the fashion world quite rapidly. She began a mentorship with a Newark-Based Fashion designer to develop her design skills and grow her talent. She showed her first collection at New Jersey Fashion Week and a family friend uploaded the video to YouTube. She caught the interest of a casting director for Kraft Foods. Jazmin was chosen to appear in the commercial that showcased Jazmin at 14-year-old, creating a line of peanut butter and chocolate dresses. She worked with a west coast based seamstress and developed the 1920’s inspired gowns using web based communications. A documentary was filmed as well and is currently being edited.
She is a freshman at Bergen County Tech High School in New Jersey. Jazmin is also an honor roll student and a member of the cheer-leading team. She will show at Atlantic City Fashion week on February 8th, 2013 a ready to wear line. Jazmin loves designing beautiful gowns but hopes an affordable clothing line will expand her company Deztani LLC.
Stayed tuned for Part two which will highlight Atlantic City Fashion Week. To contact Jazmin for clothing or to make donations click here and make sure to visit www.jazminbrownsdeztani.com
