Moccis cozy slippers for kids : Giveaway!

moccis

I met Anna Wetterlin the director of Moccis LTD at Playtime NYC last month.  She described Moccis and showed me plenty of soft and bright moccasins. Perfect for kids to run around the house in, especially toddlers who are obsessed with taking off shoes.  I am obsessed with these slippers because they are finished by hand and are made of natural materials like wool, cotton and leather. Anna gave me a pair to review and I’m going to give this  cute pair of size 18/19 (fits 6-12months)Rock and Roll slippers away to a lucky Fresh Kid Nation Fan!

The unisex Rock’N’Roll Moccis are black with outlined white stars and like all our moccasins with socks they are made in Sweden from natural materials. The finishing touches are even made by hand. The leather sole is durable and flexible, allowing the foot to move freely and muscles to develop. The skid proof sole ensures no slipping and sliding. The sewed in double elastic at the ankle prevents the moccasin from falling off.

In order to be eligible readers have two options:

1)follow Fresh Kid Nation on twitter  @freshkidnation and send us a tweet with  the hashtag #moccis.

2) Leave a comment on the FKN Blog here about why you think Moccis are cool!

A winner will be selected at random on April 12th 2013 11:59pm EST.

Nickelodeon held the 26th Kids’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles, California at the University of Southern California’s Galen Center. The show was hosted by actor Josh Duhamel who had numerous costume changes through out the night. My favorite was Spongebob Square pants. The shows opening musical act was Pitbull and Christina Aguilera joined by many kids dressed as the singers and then the sliming began. Continue reading

My Tiny Closet relaunches this weekend!

Image

Just in time for spring and summer seasons I spoke with Owner and Design Director Sandra Stollar of Igloo Island about the relaunch of My Tiny Closet.com

My Tiny Closet is online retail destination for girls who wear sizes 6-16. There are a variety of items dresses, leggings, accessories and more! Many of the items can be worn all year long with clever layering. The motorcycle print leggings are a hot item. Request came for tops out of the same print. There are also cool leggings with lightening bolts and newspaper print. The brands featured are Igloo Island, Ambition Active and D’aqor a junior line that is bit more sophisticated for older girls. It ranges from sizes 1-5 juniors.Ambition was tested with Zulily and all the items sold out. In the future Sandra hopes to have consistent business with the company.

Denny’s in Long Island  and Berkley Girls in Manhattan are local boutiques that sells Igloo Island dresses.

I love what I do and I want to be a responsible designer. Kids want to be stylish and trendy so I tailor designs for them. You will never see anything raunchy . I try to be socially conscious.

My Tiny Closet had a complete design makeover for a easy shopping experience and features such as connecting the blog to the retail site. With help from a web expert the site can be described as crisp and reflective of the New York City culture with the styling of the garments.

Who is Jazmin Brown? Part 2 story of a 15 year old fashion designer

jazminbrown Ribbet collage

I had the opportunity to follow up with Jazmin’s mom a month after the showing at Atlantic City Fashion Week in NJ. The show was a great success despite the wicked weather in the tri-state area. Deztani  featured a range of  clothing from gorgeous bright ball gowns as well as T shirts and Jazzy Baby Children’s wear. One gown from her commercial was sent overnight by the Honey Maid company.

Next to follow was a young and talented fourteen year old fashion designer by the name of Jazmin Brown. Jazmin Brown is a true testament to the fact that age is not a factor when it comes to pursuing dreams. Jazmin’s line consisted of beautifully and well crafted gowns, dresses, jackets, t-shirts, and more for girls and women of every age!-Examiner.com by Janet Todd

Jazmin has been quite busy she celebrated her 15th birthday on March 3rd and  will also be featured in the April issue of 201 Family Magazine which circulates in Bergen County. One of her gowns was on display at the Jersey Gardens mall and she has designed a dresses for Tracy Dimarco of Jerseylicious and Jeana Dean Bowling editor of Fashion Style magazine. Kraft Foods is also releasing a short documentary about the teen designer that Jazmin filmed last year. Continue reading

Spring 2013 fashions from online retailer Alex and Alexa

alexandalexaSPRINGI can’t wait for spring and to arrive so I can enjoy the outdoors in New York City with my son! MJ keeps begging me to go to the beach and it’s time to purchase new swim suits to fit his rapidly growing figure. The UK based online retailer Alex and Alexa named after founders Alex Theophanous and Alexa Till, offer shoppers designer clothing, shoes and gifts for children from the most famous international brands. There is a delightful blend of luxury labels and contemporary clothing lines. You can find the latest kids fashions from the comfort of your home and you don’t have to drag your poor kids on a shopping spree at the local mall. I spent the afternoon browsing the Spring Forward campaign and loved the new styles for the upcoming season.

Boys Spring/Summer 2013 Look, Mj tries on the jacket and has an impromptu photo shoot at the Meet & Greet

It’s Kids Fashion week in NYC and there are so many events to cover, Petite Parade, Playtime NY, and the ENK tradeshow. I woke up early got my 4 year old dressed and we decided to make our first stop the Isossy Children preview in Park slope at Hotel Le Bleu. I was excited to see their line after viewing the website and parents raving about their dresses at last night Kid’s Spring Fashion Twitter Party.

My son and I were greeted at the rooftop  lounge by Denise  and designer Amanda Rabor who launched the label in 2010. Both ladies grew up in Brooklyn and have lived in London, England. Isossy Children incorporates African, Asian and Western textiles to create a globally inspirational fashion line line for kids and tweens.

The website describes the company’s mission :The inspiration is transcending cultural barriers and opening it up for all children. Amanda believes that it is empowering for children to see African prints in their day-to-day expression and in turn it promotes inclusion and understanding. Continue reading

Yesterday seemed a lot smoother than Saturday, probably because I wore sneakers and I left my toddler at home. I attended the final petite parade in the afternoon. There were so many parents, bloggers, stylists, agents, photographers it became standing room only. I met a great photog DeMarius who provided the wonderful behind the scenes photos. Bonnie Young opened the show with a wonderful showing of fall and winter 2013 collection. The first few girls dress were adorned in 3 dimensional flowers. The color palette was rich and sophisticated, hunter green, deep violet and camel. Famous kid actress Fatima Ptacek from the short film “Curfew” and Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer  appeared in the show. I love the mixture or textures such as denim over tulle, velvet boy suits or lace on dresses. Photo credit: John Parra, Getty Images
