Harlem Fashion Week 1st Children’s Show

Harlem Fashion Week was founded in by Parson Alum Yvonne Jewnell and her mother Tandra Birkett an educator, who graduated from NYU and Teacher’s College at Columbia University. The duo created Harlem Fashion week to pay homage to the Harlem Renaissance and to feature designers who may have been overlooked by mainstream media.

Fashion Week in uptown is such a brilliant idea! I enjoyed being able to have access to an amazing production, meet industry models, new designers and mingle with celebrities away from the tent crowds.

I was excited to attend Harlem Fashion Week’s very first children’s runway presentation. On Saturday February 16, at the Museum of the City of New York several designers presented their collections; Buttons Tutus & Treasures, BowTai, Justice by Justine, LonDon Pink Apparel and Ambrosia Jeen.

” Since the days of the Renaissance, Harlem has served as the epicenter of art, literature, music and fashion. As Harlem is being revitalized in the 21st century, Harlem Fashion Week will introduce a new era of fashion culture to the Harlem community inspired by its rich cultural heritage. Our continuous goal is to produce an event that will showcase the fashion industry, provide business education for emerging designers, grow Harlem businesses and create a platform for diversity in fashion. “
